Captioning your videos supports equal access for people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing, and it also helps all kinds of people engage with your videos. The most common video players at UAA (Kaltura and YouTube) auto-generate captions by default. Taking a few steps further to edit your captions to ensure they are synchronized with the video, equivalent to what’s being heard, and readable and available to your viewer allows your videos to meet the basic standards for online accessibility.
This video was created entirely in Canva, one of UAA’s Specialty Core Tools. If you want to create a short, animated video like this for your courses, contact the Instructional Media Studio at uaa_instructionalmedia@alaska.edu.
